Walk on the Beach

It all began with a walk...

In 1990, Pastor Jim Shields was serving at a youth camp. One of the teens under his care shared that God spoke to him, personally. He heard, "If you spend five minutes a day talking to me as though I am your best friend, then I will actually become your very best friend." Deeply moved by the profound simplicity of this word, Jim made it foundational to His own walk with God. Upon establishing Sanctuary, he quickly engrained this concept into the very core of how we operate.

The "Five Minute Walk" is something we practice both as a church and in each of our personal lives. We believe that God can speak volumes if we only give Him the time. And even when He is silent, we believe in faith that He meets us where we are at.

"Prayer costs you nothing"

Golden Gate Bridge

Prayer is the Assignment

In 2022, our pastors, elders, and board members agreed to pray about whether we should renew the lease on our building. In response, God spoke loudly to many praying. He said "why do you ask me about a lease when you aren't doing what I've already asked? My house is a house of prayer, and prayer costs you nothing."

We identify as a praying church, and our aim is to seek Him wholeheartedly.

Since that moment, we have strived to make prayer, both personal and corporate, a priority. Through the dreams and visions of several members of the community, God has highlighted the Golden Gate Bridge within the context of prayer and intercession. We believe that He has charged us to blessing and revival in the bay area.

Building His
House

During a season of prayer and fasting, God spoke to Pastor Audrey, this time of a promise for provision. He promised to provide $50,000 to be set aside only for the use of His house of prayer.

When she shared this word, in faith, another member of the community prayed that God would double the portion, and that He would provide $100,000.

Two years later, Sanctuary received an envelope with a cheque for $100,000, and a note asking that it would be designated towards the building God would provide for His house of prayer.

Though we don't yet know what it looks like, we continue to wait on His guidance and provision for whatever that house will be.
